Discussion

1. What are your thoughts on Dr. David Ludwig's advice?
    A. That advice sounds good to me. This is because the model he advocates seems to be less taxing on the body and mind than the conventional model of reducing food intake itself.

2. What do you make of the idea that what you eat may be more important than how much you eat?
    A. Actually I usually think about my diet based on this idea. Until I was in college, I was concerned about calories in every meal. But now, when I want to lose weight, I reduce the amount of carbohydrates and eat something else for that amount.

3. Is the average diet where you live high in processed carbohydrates?
    A. I believe that the original Japanese food has more side dishes and less carbohydrates. However, nowadays, we eat more pasta, sweet breads, and sugary drinks. Relatively speaking, the amount of processed carbohydrates is getting higher.

4. Have obesity rates in your country increased over the past few decades?
    A. As for men, yes, it has. I have seen data showing that the obesity rate among men has increased, on the other hand the obesity rate among women has decreased over the past few decades in Japan.
A2. It was written that the decrease in the obesity rate among women is related to the fact that more women are concerned about their body shape than in the past.

5. Do you find it surprising that obesity rates in the US have increased so rapidly? Why? Why not?
    A. Yes, I do. I thought it was increasing, but I didn't expect that 42%, almost half, were obese.

Further Discussion

1. What's the best diet or exercise advice you've ever heard?
    A. The best advice I have ever heard is that it is wrong to only restrict your diet in order to lose weight, and that you should gradually improve your diet and exercise so that you can continue.

2. Who is the most health-conscious person you know?
    A. The Japanese comedian known as Nakayamakinni-kun seems to be the most health-conscious. He studied in the U.S. for bodybuilding and has been working on a healthy menu based on his experience, which he has been sharing on YouTube.

3. Have you made any changes to your diet recently?
    A. Recently, my girlfriend has been cooking for me more often, so I have changed my diet to be a little healthier.

4. How has your exercise regime changed over the years?
    A. I used to run a few years ago, but lately I've been working out on the mat at home.

5. Healthy eating is a way of life.* — Horace. What are your thoughts on this statement?
    A. This statement sounds great. But when I'm single, it's hard to pay attention to food.

例えば、「What unique animals can visitors to your country expect to see?(あなたの国を訪れる人はどんな固有動物を目にすることが期待できますか?)」

「I am not sure about it.(それについてあまり知らないです。)」や「I don’t know(分かりません。)」
